Description
Connect a USB device to equipment with a serial port using this StarTech.com adapter cable, which converts a USB Type-A signal to a DB-9 connector. The 1.7 m cable provides enough reach to get to rear ports or somewhat distant equipment, and its black colour fits in with desktop installations. The USB connector is male and the DB-9 is female, both straight, so the adapter plugs in directly without awkward right-angle bends. It features the FTDI FT232RL chipset, common for this type of conversion, and supports transmission speeds of up to 921.6 Kbit/s. You can configure it with 7 or 8 data bits and 1 or 2 stop bits, as well as various parity modes. Its first-in first-out buffer is 256 B, and the declared mean time between failures reaches 541728 h. It offers Linux support and weighs 88 g, a useful detail if you are going to carry it in your backpack along with your laptop.
