The Samsung 980 is a 1000 GB SSD with M.2 form factor and PCI Express 3.0 interface, designed for PC and laptop. Its V-NAND memory is combined with NVMe technology in its 1.4 version and takes advantage of four PCI Express data lanes to reach a read speed of 3500 MB/s and a write speed of 3000 MB/s. In random 4 KB operations it offers 500000 IOPS read and 480000 IOPS write. It incorporates hardware encryption with supported 256-bit AES security algorithms, as well as S.M.A.R.T. support and integrated hardware encryption. Its mean time between failures is 1500000 h. The average power consumption is 4.6 W and reaches a maximum of 5.3 W. All this in a compact format with a weight of 8 g.
